USCG MERCHANT MARINA CREDETIALS VERSE BOATING SAFETY CERTIFICATE

A person who holds a valid USCG Captains license goes to their state for a boating safety certificate…and gets it because the state is willing to recognize such license as sufficient for certificate issuance – then they join the Auxiliary and present their state boating safety certificate for shifting to BQ status – we would accept that – in essence, it doesn’t matter how they got their state boating safety certificate, the fact is that they got it

The key is that we see the state boating safety certificate…not so much a letter from the state that says they’re entitled to one  - For the member application process, a copy of a certificate must be provide for all enrollees.

So it becomes a homework assignment for someone – either the boater must get a state boating certificate or they have to provide proof of Maryland’s policy that such letter is sufficient in lieu of a state boating safety certificate (or the flotilla or DIRAUX office can do that research, too
